U.K. World Cup Fans Prefer BBC’s Online Coverage

MarketingVOX: The BBC Sport website is the U.K.’s most popular online source for World Cup news, with more than 1.3 million football/soccer fans having visited the site in the first week of the tournament, according to a Nielsen/NetRatings study, the BBC writes (via paidContent). More than half of sports website visitors went to the BBC’s site, which attracted nearly four times the number of visitors as nearest rival Sky Sports.
The BBC Sport website has launched several World Cup initiatives, including live video, player ratings and virtual replays. It is streaming live every match that it shows on TV.
The most popular time of day for World Cup visits was between 6 and 7 o’clock in the evening, and one in every six people using the web in the U.K. in the last seven days visited a sport or gambling website, according to Nielsen/NetRatings.
