I am using twitter to create a community for Wife in the Fast Lane, the new contest I am launching today at http://karenquinn.net/wife-in-the-fast-lane-contest/ for author Karen Quinn. Twitter is much less cluttered and simpler than MySPace, and I think it will be very effective as a community building tool. Feel free to dismiss it, but I think you will make a huge mistake if you do.

I tried it out a couple months ago and honestly found it more novel than practical. I really don’t care what people are doing right now; having lunch with a colleague, taking photos, going for a walk. If they have something useful to say…put it in a blob post. I wouldn’t want to inundate my friends and associates’ time.
That’s just me though; I really don’t like to be a cynic. Enjoy it if you like it!

I wouldn’t write about it if I didn’t think it was a big deal. It’s a fantastic networking opportunity; a really great marketing opportunity; an interesting international community; and it’s fun.
You can’t say that about two many other innovations.

Sounds great, BL. And perhaps some day I’ll check it out. But honestly, I’m feeling a bit burned out.
The technology widgets and gadgets are coming too fast, and I need to step back so I can focus on good, solid and old-fashioned marketing again. When Twitter achieves market density, I’ll check it out.
