Liz--you've hit on some big issues. People are rushing so fast into social media, both old & young, they've glossed over the long term ramifications, and also differences in the generations in terms of their use of social media. I think there's been some written about this but I'd have to check around. Maybe I'll even write about it for MarketingProfs. thanks

I'm interested in finding out what cultural/behavioral implications are anticipated with social media. The transparency created by the "conversations" occurring on Twitter and the like, are inevitably going to leave those who participate open to exposure in ways not previously seen. For older generations, this seems contradictory to all we've known with regard to privacy, diplomacy and social comportment. For younger generations who have never known the pleasures of privacy, this leaves them open to making public mistakes they will not be able to "un-do" when wisdom replaces the enthusiasm of youth. Is anyone investigating this aspect of social media's impact?

I've had my copy on backorder from Amazon for a few months now, so I'm eagerly looking forward to reading it upon release. I like Shel's perspective on new media and technology. I know he'll probably grumble about this, but I'm always keenly interested to read how he compares what's going on today with what traditional media from his childhood.
Cheers!
Michael
Disclaimer: I helped Shel connect to some of the folks and companies profiled in the book and am named in the acknowledgments. But I'm really just a fan, that's all.
