MediaBuyerPlanner: Speculation is running high as media insiders debate the possibility that Time Inc.’s editor-in-chief John Huey could remove Time’s managing editor Jim Kelly and who would serve as a probable replacement, writes MarketWatch. If Kelly were to leave Time and take his news-focused journalistic approach with him, the magazine may lean more toward the advertising-friendly subject of celebrity gossip, which some industry players say is what Time Inc. wants.
Some say Huey is seeking “outsiders” who’ve spent their careers away from Time Inc. for Kelly’s replacement, writes New York Daily News. “The choice is supposed to be ’surprising’,” according to one Time insider.
Individuals near the top of Huey’s list of candidates to replace Kelly include top editor of Vanity Fair and The New Yorker Tina Brown, and New York’s editor-in-chief, Adam Moss.
