On another note, I need to agree with David, we need to be very careful at "group" blogs, such as Daily Fix, that we promote best practices not our company's products (even though I'm sure the products are grand). I think it's suitable to do that at company blogs and, at your blog, I gave you some input on what to keep covering for readers (e.g. Web 2.0, digital imaging trends). I'll keep giving thought to cool names for the new blog.

Thanks Ann, I appreciate you stepping in. My intent was not to place on MP a HP shopping catalog - we just posted my nomination post since I had been an MP contributor in the early days. Anyways.....
Gary- we are working on the movies on demand requiring CSS. Stay tuned....
Eric

In Eric's defense, I encouraged the placement of the post (with its product placements). Generally, I'd agree with you, David and CK -- this blog is not the place to shill for your company or its products. But I made an exception for Eric's post because of his new job in a new space, and because it's vacation/summer time.
I'm willing to admit it may not have been the right call for this blog, but I did want to step up and let you all know that Eric didn't act solo.

As I said over at your blog, I am thrilled for your new job and have no doubt that you'll love your new gig...HP sure is lucky to have you.

Erik, I'm glad you love your job. You're one of the lucky ones.
With all due respect, though, when did Daily Fix become a shopping catalog for HP or for any company? We'd like to hear about marketing tactics, how you plan to reach out to consumers in new ways, etc. That's fair game, I think.
But summer vacation shopping ideas -- all of them HP-related -- that reads like an ad? Please.

We've actually been working on this same issue as part of our social media promotion service. One of the biggest questions our clients fail to ask themselves is "what do i want the purpose of my blog to be?" Is it to interact with clients, develop a knowledge center for the industry, branding or simply to sell??? One of our client's goals was merely to associate a particular employee/industry expert's name with the company's brand. They wanted a blog to accomplish this. So for them, it was a simple branding play.
I know this probably doesn't answer your question but I think only you can make the call on what you want the goal of your blog to be.

I for one would like to hear how HP is leveraging using niche social networks to help them create connections with consumers.
For instance does HP feel building a number of small social networks (50k-100K members) for specic uses of digital media? Examples might be Travel Photography, professionals, or shorts photography.
How about the others reading this forum? What are your thoughts?
