MediaBuyerPlanner: The British grocery chain Tesco – one of the three biggest retailers in the world – plans to expand to the U.S. with its small-store format, and with that in mind has purchased 14 sites in Las Vegas.
The company plans for a fall launch of the neighborhood-style stores, called Fresh & Easy, but wouldn’t disclose the exact launch date or the location of the first store, writes MediaPost.
The stores will be roughly 10,000 square feet, smaller than usual supermarkets for a faster, easier shopping experience, says a spokesperson. The exterior of the stores will be spring green with enormous windows.
The Fresh & Easy website is live, but doesn’t offer specifics on locations beyond saying, “We’re coming soon to Arizona, California and Nevada.”
Tesco is attempting to make a splash with its environmental efforts, and recently announced that it is building a 500,000-square-foot distribution center in Riverside, Calif., complete with a $13 million solar panel roofing system.
