Tassler to ‘Jericho’ Fans: You Win (Please Stop Sending Nuts)

MediaBuyerPlanner: In a letter to the fans of Jericho on the show’s message board, CBS president Nina Tassler announced that published reports of Jericho’s possible return next season were, in fact, true.
“Wow!” she wrote. “Over the past few weeks you have put forth an impressive and probably unprecedented display of passion in support of a prime time television series. You got our attention; your emails and collective voice have been heard.
“As a result, CBS has ordered seven episodes of Jericho for mid-season next year. In success, there is the potential for more. But, for there to be more Jericho, we will need more viewers.”
She adds that the network will count on fans to rally around the show, to recruit new viewers “with the same grass-roots energy, intensity and volume you have displayed in recent weeks.”
Fans disappointed about the show’s cancellation had inundated CBS with letters and 18,000 kg of nuts, in a campaign to bring the show back, writes the BBC. Why nuts? The idea was formed in response to one character’s response to a demand: “Nuts,” he said.
CBS has not named a specific date for Jericho’s return. In the interim, several initiatives are in the works to help introduce the show to new audiences including re-broadcasting Jericho on CBS this summer, streaming episodes and clips from these episodes across the CBS Audience Network (online), and releasing the first season DVD on September 25.
Tassler thanked fans for expressing their support in such a “creative, sustained and very thoughtful and respectful” manner.
“P.S.,” she added. “Please stop sending us nuts.”
