MediaBuyerPlanner: Thirty-seven percent of shoppers intend to hit the stores the day after Thanksgiving, according to a new poll from Moritz. That number is up 3.4 percent from its survey last year.
Among younger shoppers, the propensity to hit the stores on Black Friday is higher: 59 percent of Gen Y respondents plan to shop, while 46 percent of Gen Xers plan to shop, writes MediaPost. Of baby boomers, only 23 percent plan to shop, along with 21 percent of the Silent Generation.
BDO Seidman’s Retail Compass Survey of CMOs shows that chief marketing officers of the largest retailers expect Black Friday sales to account for 15.1 percent of total holiday revenue in 2007; 21.3 percent of holiday sales will take place the week before Christmas.
Cyber Monday, the Monday following Thanksgiving which is typically regarded as the kick-off to the ecommerce holiday season, is expected to bring in 12.3 percent of internet sales.
