Online purchase requests for fuel-efficient cars overtook those for trucks and SUVs in the second quarter, writes Internet Retailer, citing Autobytel’s Consumer Choice report, which tracks new-vehicle buying decisions on its automotive websites. Online requests for the Toyota ECHO/Yaris soared 835 percent from the year-ago period, 110 percent for the Ford Escape Hybrid, Toyota Prius (73 percent) and Ford Focus (72 percent).
However, online requests were down for the Jeep Grand Cherokee (-62 percent), Hummer H3 (-56 percent), Nissan Titan (-52 percent), Dodge Ram (-50 percent) Toyota Tundra and Chevy Silverado (-43 percent), Honda Ridgeline (-38 percent) and the Ford F-150 (-34 percent).
