MarketingVOX: The Canadian government has stiffened penalties for recording movie in movie theaters, reports The Globe and Mail.
A rule under consideration by Canadian officials bestows a five year prison term upon those charged with the illegal recording of a theatrical exhibition. Just recording a film will be considered illegal, whereas current law requires officials to prove the recording is being made for commercial use.
Last month Warner Bros. announced they would halt screening movies in Canada because they did not feel officials were doing enough to combat piracy. The announcement came amid criticism from the other major studios that piracy via in-theater recording was a major problem in Canada.
