MediaBuyerPlanner: Sharper Image desperately needs to grow its business, and it is looking to licensing to help make that happen.
The company has created a new division tasked with licensing The Sharper Image brand to manufacturers and retailers in the hopes of capitalizing on the brand’s heritage while expanding its reach, writes DM News.
The first licensed products should launch as early as the fall of 2007 in product categories such as electronics, computers, personal care, automotive, bed and bath, kitchen, home furnishings, luggage, fitness, apparel, toys and games and unique gifts.
Company sales dive-bombed 22 percent for the fiscal year ending Jan. 31, while same-store sales decreased 25 percent and catalog/direct marketing sales dropped 19 percent for the same period.
The company brought in turn-around specialist Jerry W. Levin as chairman and interim CEO after ousting company founder Richard Thalheimer in Sept.
