MarketingVOX: Fame TV, a new channel available in the U.K. and Ireland, has partnered with Revver to begin broadcasting the site’s video content, the creators of which will get a cut of revenues.
Revver will supply Fame TV with a selection of videos, and the network will choose which to broadcast, CNET reports. Fame TV will let viewers vote on their favorite videos via mobile text message and charge around 95 cents per message. Half of the revenue generated will be given to Revver, which will give half of that amount to the owner of the video. Fame TV is available to over 8 million customers in the U.K. and Ireland.
The partnership with Fame TV is another example of Revver’s differentiation strategy of compensating its users. “This definitely seems in line with (Revver’s) strategy of continuing to find new distribution outlets for their content,” said Josh Martin, an analyst with Yankee Group. “If they are sharing revenue and they can get that news out to the content creator community saying, ‘We can get you $500 instead of the $50,’ maybe it becomes more appealing.”
Fame TV launched earlier this month and will allow users to directly upload their own videos to its site for a $3 fee. Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp., which owns MySpace, has roughly a 40 percent stake in Fame TV.
