Penguin Ceases Sales of Audio Books on eMusic

MarketingVOX: eMusic, iTunes’ biggest competitor in terms of song downloads, hit an early snag after announcing it would begin selling audio books last month.
Penguin pulled out of its deal with eMusic due to lack of DRM support. eMusic instead sells in the open MP3 format.
eMusic initially signed on five publishers, Penguin selling some 150 titles.
The New York Times checked up on another eMusic publisher, Random House Audio.
Random House reported none of its titles have been illegally downloaded on torrents, and early audio book sales on eMusic were “really encouraging.”
