MarketingVOX: Digital music companies The Orchard and Digital Music Group have announced news of a merger in the make, reports The New York Times.
The two operate in the same space, securing digital distribution rights from record labels, dealing primarily with smaller firms. DMG also possesses online rights to a handful of classic television shows.
The Orchard will control the business and the merged company will operate under that name. Stocks will be traded, though, under DMG’s ticker symbol. It is hoped hoped the deal will provide a better economy of scale and give labels the comfort that comes with working alongside a larger entity.
