Nickelodeon to Commit $100 Million to Casual Gaming

MarketingVOX: Nickelodeon, the kid-friendly arm Viacom’s MTV Networks, is committing $100 million to casual gaming, reports Next-Gen.
Most of the money will be spent during 2008 and 2009, as Nickelodeon launches gaming projects across all its properties. These include preschool-targeted myNOGGIN, Nick.com and Nicktropolis multiplayer games, online gaming community Nick Gaming Club, teen girl-focused The-Ngames.com, AddictingGames.com, Shockwave.com and the NeoPets website, which will become Neostudios.MTV Networks has made gaming a crucial part of its digital strategy. MTVN already owns online gaming community platform Xfire, GameTrailers.com, and now owns Guitar Hero creator Harmonix.
President of Nickelodeon Kids and Family Group Cyma Zarghami stated that focusing on online gaming makes sense, given that 86 percent of kids 8 to 14 play them.
