MarketingVOX: Facebook is testing a “Share” feature that allows members to share with others content from within the site or elsewhere on the web.
Facebook’s Share, launched Tuesday in beta, allows members to share photos, blogs, videos, and other content, within or outside the network, by posting it to their profiles or sending it to selected friends, writes Red Herring. The service is available to users at the University of California, Berkeley, and Stanford University; Facebook is planning a launch across the network next week.
On the network, members can click the Share button to share with others; via a pop-up window, would-be recipients will be able to preview and edit the content, add comments, and choose whether to post it to their profile page and/or a select group of friends.
When outside Facebook, members who want to share content will need to use a downloadable “Share bookmarklet” tool or manually paste links into a Share pop-up window on Facebook.
