MarketingVOX: NBC Universal has agreed to buy Oxygen, an independent cable network geared toward women 18-34, for $925 million.
Oxygen joins the ranks of what NBC is calling a “virtual women’s network” of assets including cable channel Bravo, iVillage.com, and morning show Today, reports AdWeek.
At the time of its acquisition, Bravo was in 54 million homes, which NBC boosted to 80 million. Oxygen is currently in 74 million homes.
With the success of bringing formerly-independent Bravo on board in 2002, NBC thinks it can do the same with Oxygen.
But Bravo’s demographic is also larger, targeting women 18-54.
