MediaBuyerPlanner: The Media Audit and Ipsos claim that Arbitron’s suit against them is groundless because Arbitron had no right to patent the processes associated with its portable people meter electronic measurement system.
Arbitron claims that the companies’ smart phone system infringes on three of its patents. The legal basis of both arguments is murky, but legal analysts believe that Media Audit-Ipsos might argue that Arbitron’s patented techniques are actually legacy methods already in use in the industry for ratings purposes, writes MediaPost.
