‘L.A. Times’ Managing Editor Heads to ‘WSJ’ and Istanbul

MediaBuyerPlanner: Douglas Frantz is leaving The Los Angeles Times, after less than two years as managing editor, to become the Middle East bureau chief of The Wall Street Journal.
He will be based in Istanbul, the Journal announced yesterday (via The New York Times).
Frantz was recruited by former editor Dean Baquet in 2005 to take over the No. 2 position in the newsroom. Baquet and publisher Jeffrey M. Johnson were forced out by the Tribune Co. when they refused to make newsroom cuts mandated by the parent company.
The L.A. Times has since that time undergone a number of changes in editorial staff, as well as experiencing steep cuts through buyouts.
