I don't know about a minute... I had a kryptonite that I forgot the combination to so I tried the pull apart method but couldn't really feel it.. I decided I would try the push in method and had it unlocked within 30 seconds....

Forget the bolt cutters, that's the least of their problems. Any bike lock that uses a rotating cylinder type of combination lock can easily be broken into in less than a minute. I just bought my son a brand new bike and liked the look of the Kryptonite lock and purchased one for him. After a few days. I remembered that as a kid (I'm 50 now) that I could easily break into this type of lock. Just gently pull the lock apart and start rotating the right-most cylinder. When it reaches the correct location it will "snap" into place. The lock usually even separates slightly letting you know that it the correct number as well. Then try the other cylinders. After a little practice you'll find that you can unlock it in less than a minute

I may be a bit biased because Donna is a very close friend of mine and a contributor to my bike industry marketing blog, but she's one of the most conscientious people you'll ever encounter. I know that she really labors to "do the right thing" and not just for Kryptonite, but for herself and for the community at large.
That said, I might've taken a more rapid approach to the buttheads, but then I'm kinda known for not stepping down from a fight too... so maybe she did the smarter thing than I would've.

"i understand, on one level, why they think they needed legal involved, but that can only help when the lawyers move FAST and when they don't speak in tongues."
Do lawyers speak in any other way?

Kryptonite's problem in its first encounter with the blogosphere was that it took - literally - months to respond. so i suppose they made progress.
but yes, they should have outed them at the beginning, which you'll see in the post is what i told her to do when she emailed me a few weeks ago. ("I'd out them immediately and fully and let your readers weigh in on it")
and even then, the issue had been going on for weeks.
i understand, on one level, why they think they needed legal involved, but that can only help when the lawyers move FAST and when they don't speak in tongues.

My first question would be to ask - why so long in responding? You're right, BL, communication today is instant and a response within 48 hours would have seemed more appropriate.
As for the negative comments, she may be able to monitor her own blog, but how can she control the other bike forums? Wouldn't it have been prudent to "out" the competitor slandering her company's good name, without using nastiness? Just plain truth and a response to the accusation may have nipped it in the bud quickly.
