It’s Not Your Grandfather’s Social Network…. No Wait, It Is!

Proving that there’s no reason why all those young whipper-snappers should have all the fun, behold Pensionbook, the Facebook for old people! The names of the groups these guys are joining are hilarious, and how can you not love that they poke each other….with their walking sticks?!?

Hat tip to Seth and Daan for this hilarious image.

…But this got me to thinking, where is the Facebook for Marketing Bloggers? What would the features look like? The groups? Apps?
Here’s what I could imagine the News Feed looking like (with inspiration from Ann):
5 of your friends joined the group ‘I’m only here cause Scoble says it’s cool to be here’

Ann is Obsessing over her Technorati authority….again!

Seth has joined the group ‘Real A-Listers don’t need comments’

Jennfier threw a reciprocal link at Drew!

3 of your friends joined the group ‘Photowalking is a big damned waste of time’
Cam Beck and Joe Jaffe are now friends with Mack Collier. Mack found Cam and Joe by using Bloggers that Link Together, go up the Power 150 Together.
David Armano has joined the group ‘Used to be a blogger, now I’m a rock
star’

Robert Scoble and Steve Rubel added the ‘Shiny Object’ application.
You are now friends with 6 bloggers you have never heard of.
What groups/apps/features would you like to see if there was a BlogBook?

Cute stuff Mack (and Ann)! While I can’t recall the URL, a social networking site for marketing bloggers did launch (I think it’s in Beta). It’s targeted to online marketing professionals so I didn’t sign-up since I do both online and offline (and get my “fix” through participating in blogs and other programs).
And Eons–www.eons.com–a social networking site for 50+ is doing really well.
I’ve thought for a while that marketers either don’t understand the older segments (not saying “old”, btw, just “older”), but they need to–such a vast market of various markets/needs spanning a host of niches from 50s – 90s.

  2. Ann Handley says:

“CK just deleted her Marketing-Blogger-Book account. Again.”
    “Jonathan Kranz joined the group
‘Yeah — but What’s the ROI?’”
“David Reich joined the ‘A-Ha! NOW I Get Social Media!’” group.

  3. Hi,
This is Tim. I work for David Armano as his agent. Thanks for referencing David in this post. He expresses his warm thanks and appreciation. We’ll be sending you “I knew David before he was a big shot” T-shirts in the mail.
They will be signed, but the signatures are not real since David doesn’t have time for stuff like that anymore.
But thanks again for your interest and great post! ;-)

  4. LOL, I love it Mack!
I’d picture these ones popping up on my account…
“Patrick Schaber has joined the group “‘SEM’s social network of the month club.’”
John Chow has invited you to throw rotten tomatoes at Google.
Stoney deGeyter is realizing there’s a world outside of search marketing.

LOL Social Network of the Month Club. Those that have the Shiny Object app added will be notified first ;)

  6. Very nice, I can just see Robert Scoble interviewing the next 60 something entrepreneur who’s new social networking site deals with Boomers who use Web 5.0 :-)

  7. I’d join an “SEO Kicks All Asses” group, but then quit to form “SEO is the 8th Circle of Hell” group.
    Thanks for the laugh!

  8. Mack,
Very funny! Hey…how do we get the “I knew David before he was a big shot” t-shirts? Is there a website?
That could be the answer to my last minute shopping crunch!
    Drew
