@Karalyn - it must be frustrating to see someone market in such a careless way services that on the surface may be similar to those you offer. There is also only so much we can make people do, including ourselves, if we don't want to do it.
@Leigh - remember that mentors are also people. And that we change. The best definition of manager I have found is by Marcus Buckingham. He wrote: managers get people done through work. That is very different than the authority concept. We give leaders permission to lead us. Maybe because they connect with what we believe to be true. I like where you're taking the thought - human potential. The first person we lead is our own self. Thank you for sharing your thinking with us.

I once had a mentor tell me that I was a good manager, but not a good leader. He said that good managers know how to tell people what to do, and lead by authority. Great leaders know how to inspire people to action - leading by influence...
I embrace the idea that there are tribes and leaders. I feel less comfortable embracing the idea that I may be a tribe leader, which might be the reason I MIGHT not be one.
Rather than getting wrapped up in the concept, I think it's important to ask ourselves if we as individuals and as employees are being true to our talent, potential and calling. Are we acting on our passion, are we doing something with our ideas and do we understand our great ability to influence to create something better, something great and remarkable.
You'v raised some good points, Valeria. Thanks. I would guess that if we're operating within that potential I mentioned above, there might be no limit to the tribes that follow... just thinking out loud.

This is a good thread. Sometimes we get bogged down in over-thinking/over-researching/over-networking and forget to set goals and focus on achieving them. Whether working for ourselves or with others, we must lead to succeed. Otherwise we are just spinning our wheels -- that doesn't pay bills!
As for @abbey, I have my doubts. She seems to post the same thing everywhere and her grammer is not the best. Just a personal observation from someone who makes a living as a Virtual Assistant.

In fact the answer is none for should ;-) It's about wanting to and doing, correct. Good for you, Ari. I tend to be too subtle, a trait I carry with me from Europe.

I'm concerned your title might be off. If I understand Seth's perspective, tribal leaders make a choice between wanting to lead or choosing to lead. The title of your post implies the first, when the correct answer is the second. No?

@Martha - I would believe you if you were to elaborate. What made it a good article?
@Abbey - seriously?
