MediaBuyerPlanner: After less than a year on the job, Hollywood Reporter publisher Tony Uphoff is leaving to return to work for a technology publisher.
Billboard publisher John Kilcullen will take Uphoff’s place, writes the Los Angeles Times. Billboard is a sister publication of the Hollywood Reporter, under parent VNU.
Uphoff points to a “significantly larger opportunity” as president of a division of CMP Technology, according to the article. He will oversee publication of such trade magazines as EE Times and InformationWeek.
Kilcullen’s promotion follows what was called by Robert Krakoff, president and CEO of VNU, a “successful turnaround and expansion of the operations at Billboard.” Since joining Billboard as publisher in 2003, Kilcullen led the magazine through a redesign of its print publication and online operations, and established a range of new conferences, awards shows, digital products, licensing programs and VIP sponsored events, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Advertising revenue at Billboard has climbed 25 percent annually during the past two years, VNU said.
