MediaBuyerPlanner: As a prelude to a national rollout later this year of HD Radio receivers, the HD Digital Radio Alliance and Radio Shack said that several Radio Shack stores in major cities – including Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago and Philadelphia – have already begun stocking the new receivers, writes Radio Ink.
“Radio Shack has been a destination point for generations of customers looking to fulfill their home and portable radio needs, and HD Digital Radio technology is clearly the most significant advancement in terrestrial radio broadcasting since the introduction of FM stereo more than 50 years ago,” said Jim Hamilton, Radio Shack executive vp of merchandising and marketing.
Initially, Radio Shack stores will sell the Boston Acoustics Recepter Radio HD for $299.99, and will then add exclusive RadioShack branded receivers when the pilot goes national in September.
