Networking at COC functions is a great way to build business. Just don’t go there with the overt intention of handing out 100 business cards…Be yourself and constantly be in the mindset of how can I help this person. Cheers…Tim.

Terrific post on the benefits of belonging to a good chamber (they don’t all fall into that category, unfortunately). I happen to belong to one that does. Not only is it a constant source of new contacts, but our events are always fun and generally well worth my time. But you did mention how active you are and how that is key. I didn’t join my chamber until I knew I had the time to become active in a number of committees. That involvement has paid back in spades — from finding an intern to adding great new vendors to my database — to picking up new clients. The networking I do through this organization is a primary marketing tool for me. Can I use part of your post for a speech I have to give at my chamber luncheon next month?

Lewis, nice of you to write on behalf of local chambers. We, in Boerne, TX are blessed with a Fantastic, motivated and fun chamber of commerce. Our company has been a member for several years and thank our chamber for the business and the opportunities to be more involved in our community. We have the “Leadership Boerne” program which i will be graduating from next month and am thankful for the chamber’s time and effort to showcase our community and grow leaders.
