MarketingVOX: A group of political and advocacy group consultants recently got a sales pitch from Google highlighting what the company can do for them, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Google spoke to about 80 consultants about how its products, from the core search engine to YouTube, can be used to court votes and opinion. The pitch was given by by members of Google’s newly formed political sales team. (YouTube has a track record of sorts, having hosted a video that put Hillary Clinton in a “1984″ parody.)
It’s far from the only web company to make a play for use as a political campaign tool – MySpace reached out in a similar way – Google’s involvement signals that the company thinks there’s serious money to made in this arena.
Google, though, says it wants to learn from how the campaigns use its tools and provide a level playing field for all candidates.
