Good Gamers Make Great Leaders, Say IBM and Seriosity

MarketingVOX: Maybe sci-fi novels like “Ender’s Game” are less fiction than corporate incubators. IBM and Seriosity published a report that compares leadership qualities found in players of massive multi-player online games (MMOGs) to the corporate world, reports Next Generation.
“Smart organizations are recognizing valued employees who play online games and apply their skills and experiences as virtual leaders to their ‘real world’ jobs,” said said Jim Spohrer, director of services research, at IBM Research Center in Almaden, Calif.
The report suggests companies should adopt aspects of MMOGs in order to bring out the best from employees. Such traits include a solid incentive structure, virtual economies that create a marketplace for info and collaboration, transparency of one’s abilities, recognition of achievement, and visibility across networks of communication.
