FTC Puts Closer Eye on ValueClick Practices

MarketingVOX: In a regulatory filing, online ad network ValueClick revealed it is being investigated by the Federal Trade commission, reports The Motley Fool.
The investigation is set upon ValueClick’s lead generation activities, which the FTC says may violate either the Federal Trade Commission Act or the CAN-SPAM act. Specifically targeted are certain websites that offer free gifts, and the way in which the company drives traffic to those sites.
The ads being investigated tote “Free iPods” or make other such promises. ValueClick owns a number of sites that generate sales leads through numerous such ads through its WebClients subsidiary.
The investigation could impact bidders for ValueClick, one of the few free-range ad networks that haven’t been snapped up in recent weeks.
