  1. Paul Barsch says:

Great advice, especially the part about how once on the internet – it’s essentially forever!

  2. Elaine Fogel says:

It’s amazing, Paul, that everything we do and say online is being watched. (Do-do-do-do) That was a poor attempt at the Twilight Zone theme song. :)

  3. Paul Dunay says:

    @ Elaine – I guess it goes – De-Do-Da-Da … :-)

  4. Now, that’s what you call scary, Paul.
Getting fired by just checking in on your Facebook updates?
I can understand the one about Virgin Atlantic Airways, but getting fired when you’re sick and checking Facebook updates on your phone?
    Truly sounds like Twilight Zone!
    Keep those post coming!

  5. I’ll try to avoid using the phrase “in these economic times,” but advice like this truly is more relevant than ever.
One of our analysts is a former recruiter and she wrote a blog post for us recently on how this also applies to those out of work and job-seeking: http://blog.cdginteractive.com/my_weblog/2009/08/3-ways-to-prevent-social-media-selfsabotage-on-your-job-search.html
So perhaps the lesson is, don’t get fired — and if you do, don’t also create obstacles for yourself in your job search!

I don’t understand how they can see what you have written if you have all your pages marked as private and only friends can see the content. Am I missing something? Or, did friends then inform the company about the content?
