MarketingVOX: TorrentSpy and ISOHunt, two of the largest P2P file-sharing apps, will begin filtering pirated content from its search results, reports Zero Paid. The decision was made in response to a lawsuit brought on by the MPAA that demanded P2P sites begin tracking user activity.
The two will use a system called FileRights, which automatically filters “BitTorrent trackers that link to pirated content from its search results.”
FileRight works with a database of “file hashes.” Individual copyright owners register for the database and enter the hash values of their content into the database. The entire filtering process is then automated.
There was initial talk that TorrentSpy would simply ban U.S. users, but have instead fulfilled the MPAA’s demands. Zero Paid thinks the move will simply give other torrents that reside out of the country, such as Sweden’s Pirate Bay, more traffic.
