Doodle: Putting the ‘Fun’ in ‘Functional’

You know how it’s so tedious to synchronize different people’s agendas and find a date for a group meeting that suits everyone?

The very hip Scott Monty introduced a group of us Boston bloggers to a nifty little Web 2.0 tool called Doodle that is ideal for finding suitable dates for appointments with others. What I love most about the tool, created by Michael Näf, is that no authentication or registration is necessary …. you can hop on and create a poll with suggested meeting dates and times, and then invite your group members to “vote” on the ones that work for them.
There are many Web 2.0 tools that are fun but not particularly life-enhancing. Not so Doodle — Scott set up a poll for seven local authors of The Age of Conversation to meet for drinks, and voila! …. goodbye scheduling chaos.
For group meetups, as well as for virtual companies like MarketingProfs which has employees in several different US time zones, Doodle makes a lot of sense.
Check out Doodle here.

Interesting! Good to see a new site/service that offers something unique rather than being another knockoff of the other knockoff ;)

    Hey Ann,
Glad to be of service! I’ve got a bunch of those little tricks up my sleeve. And what’s a crayonista without a little Doodling?

  3. Ann Handley says:

Mack: Absolutely. It’s a simple little tool but brilliant, really.
Great find, Scott. Thanks again. Can’t wait to see what else you’ve got….

I checked it out and I’m going to try it. I like its simplicity. Thanks!

The one mentioned by T.J. McCue today in his Marketing Profs article is pretty darned cool: cocomment.com
I remember when it was months between cool new sites/app’s on the web, and now there are more than I can discover in a day!

  6. We currently use the free version of Google Apps for Your Domains for scheduling our meetings — not only can you sync and schedule calendars, you have shared spreadsheets, address books, and lots of other cool things. As my company is a 99% virtual business, being able to share what we need to without having to host our own server has been nothing short of … [insert a really strong positive word here], and I don’t think we would be where we are in our processes without it.
Of course, not everyone is as anal as I about adding my schedule to my calendar. … so there’s that hurdle. The lightness of Doodle would definitely speak to the free-spirited nature of our creatives. heh heh.
Thanks for sharing this — looking at Doodle sparked some ideas, and I’m already thinking about neat ways to encourage team-ness with the polls.
