Great point, Patricia - it so amazing how it all boils down to word choice or the way we frame things.
And - I agree that DF readers are not likely to need this reminder so much - but maybe we do still need to keep bringing it up in general. I know that since I started studying up on men - I am much more aware of how I present concepts or write my ideas. And - I still screw up, but it is a rewarding challenge.
As for the election - yes, I, too, am pretty sick of the race/gender discussions, but the media must think it is serving the average Joe in its approach (I read somewhere that newspapers are written for a 6th grade education, for instance). Frank Rich has a great insight about why Obama's speech the other day so resonated with so many people: "The real novelty was to find a politician who didn't talk down to his audience but instead trusted it to listen to complete, paragraph-long thoughts that couldn't be reduced to sound bites."
The link to Rich's piece: <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/23/opinion/23rich.html?_r=2&ref=opinion&oref=slogin&oref=slogin" rel="nofollow">http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/23/opinion/23rich.html?_r=2&ref=opinion&oref=slogin&oref=slogin</a>
Words - and how you use them - will keep marketers on their toes forever.

Well, we're in the midst of a historical presidential campaign full of both claims and accusations that Candidate X does Y like a woman/black/etc. And that's really driving constructive debate & conversation, huh?
Perhaps we need to abolish the whole "like a" structure in these conversations. Sort of how we're advised to market benefits, not products.
Any time you boil down a product/service/person to "like a," you are glossing over important distinctions and, quite possibly, alienating or offending a portion of the audience too.

I grow tired of the "men vs women" in this world. If one gender is predisposed to doing something better, I want to know so I can excel as the other does.
I would love to invest like Warren Buffett, but not because's he's a man (incidentally, because he's down to earth, humble, honest, intelligent, successful, and as you point out, patient). But I'd also like to grow a company like Kimora Lee Simmons or Martha Stewart. I'd also take tips from Michelle Kwan or Jennie Finch in a heartbeat.
Andrea, I hope your article opens some eyes. Though I'm also hopeful that the type of person who reads the Daily Fix already understands your point. Thanks for bringing back to the forefront.
