MediaBuyerPlanner: Des Moines, Iowa, is the latest city to place a moratorium on electronic billboards pending guidelines on when and where electronic billboards can be used.
According to NBC News (via WhoTV.com), city councilman Tom Vlassis says such billboards could distract drivers and lead to accidents.
The St. Paul city council recently placed a similar moratorium on digital billboards after neighboring Minnetonka refused to power two of Clear Channel’s new signs. Clear Channel Outdoor launched two digital billboard networks, in Milwaukee and Tampa, in November. The outdoor company hopes to run similar networks in every major city in the country.
