MarketingVOX: A study by the Pew Internet & American Life Project finds that 32 percent of teens online have been contacted by a total stranger, and that 7 percent of those encounters have made them scared or uncomfortable.
But while only 4 percent of teenage boys got creeped out by a stranger, 11 percent of teen girls were made uncomfortable.
Those numbers rose dramatically when a photo was involved. Half (49 percent) of teens that posted photos of themselves were contacted by a stranger, with 20 percent being “of the unpleasant variety,” according to Ars Technica.
A study conducted by Sophos in August suggests photos may not be the only draw for predators. In general, youth using social networking sites like Facebook tend to reveal a great deal of personal information.
