"Death to Catalog Marketing!!!"

SEATTLE, WA -- Kevin Hillstrom's Mine That Data weblog has some excellent posts on the catalog cancellation craze.  Well, maybe it's not a craze just yet.  But it's gonna be.  Look at this video from Kevin's post ...

The Ultimate Multichannel Experience

For whatever reason, I have awesome dreams. True story:  I dreamed about the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake two days before it actually happened.  Now, I'm not telling you this because I want you to believe that I have special powers.  You know better.  Plus, any self-respecting cynic could have predicted that earthquake.

The $64 Question

I heard a statistic today that the average consumer only visits seven Web sites on a regular basis.  So the prevailing "venture capital wisdom" (an oxymoron) dictates that if you have a Web site, you need to be one of those seven.  Evidently, we all have a handful of sites that we go to for our news, buying, etc.

The Spiderman Trojan Horse

I have pointed out on these pages that the average US citizen gets hit with more than 5000 commercial messages a day.  Everything from "I'd rather be driving a Titleist" to the logo on your watch.  Your brain is under constant assault.  You know it.  We all know it.  We are marinating in marketing all the time.

How to Prepare for a Job Interview

One of the best things about being a marketing recruiter who specializes in multichannel ecommerce is that I get to deal with some of the smartest people on earth.  Honestly, they're amazing.  There's just so much happening in the multichannel marketing arena, what with all of the changes in the way consumers can discover, buy, and return products: catalog, internet, mobile phone, TV, inbound call centers, retail stores, you name it.  The candidates who deal with these ever-changing marketing and integration challenges are freaking brilliant.

Does Cold Calling Work?

As my regular blog readers know, before becoming a marketing recruiter I owned a B2B inside sales consultancy called "Reliable Growth."  Essentially, I taught companies like NCR and Aflac how to research, identify, and develop new business with a phone, an internet connection and a fax machine.

Humility: The Core of Servant Leadership

As a marketing recruiter, not a week goes by that I don't get a call from a VP of HR looking for a VP of Marketing who is a "servant leader."  Servant leadership seems to be all the rage these days.  Every company wants servant leaders, but few seem to know much about servant leadership.  They talk the talk, but walking the walk is much harder.  That's because....
