Conde Nast to Expand Luxury Titles to India

MediaBuyerPlanner: As India’s affluence increases, Conde Nast is looking to capitalize on the growth by launching a number of its upmarket titles in that country.
The publisher is launching Vogue in India in September; it is following that launch by seeking or having already received regulatory approval for magazines such as Glamour, GQ, Conde Nast Traveler, Vanity Fair and Wired, writes the Financial Times.
Those titles will kick off after the publisher feels it has gotten the Vogue launch “right,” says Alex Kuruvilla, managing director of Conde Nast India. India is second only to Singapore in terms of the growth in the number of people who have net assets of $1 million or more, but the luxury retail industry still faces challenges, such as a cultural and political aversion to conspicuous displays of wealth.
Kuruvilla expects ad yields of four to five times that of its competition – Elle, L’Officiel and local magazine Verve. Vogue broke even in China in its first year.
