Close AFC Championship Game Gives CBS Big Win

MediaBuyerPlanner: With a new season of American Idol airing this month, along with NFL championship games, television viewing has been (and will continue to be) a lopsided affair this month – at least on certain nights.
CBS blew the other networks out of the water Sunday night, for example, with a tight game between the Indianapolis Colts and the New England Patriots. The game snared CBS its highest rating of the season for a single show, even beating the ratings of Fox’s record-breaking American Idol performances on Tuesday and Wednesday of last week, writes MediaPost.
ABC, usually the Sunday night winner, took a big hit. Desperate Housewives and Brothers & Sisters were both down. Desperate Housewives, a former hit which has struggled this season, dropped to a 6.6 rating, from its usual 8 to 9 rating, while lead-out Brothers & Sisters fell to 4.6, off from its usual 5-plus.
CBS’s championship game earned a preliminary rating of 24.6, up 14 percent from last year’s game with Pittsburgh against Denver.
