MediaBuyerPlanner: The Chicago suburban newspaper, The News Sun, recently changed its layout from a broadsheet to a tabloid, and is now delivered in the morning rather than the evening, Editor & Publisher reports.
The conversion took effect July 24 with local commuter rail stations receiving their papers by 6 a.m., and residential papers being delivered before 6:30 a.m.
David Rutter, editor and publisher of the paper, says readers “have grumbled for years – with good reason – that getting their local newspaper at noon or later was a lot less useful in their lives than they’d prefer. Frankly, it’s a testament to reader loyalty that our customers stuck with us.”
The News Sun refers to the Tabloid layout as a “compact format” which allows for more layering of stories with short pieces that give background and context to stories.
