MediaBuyerPlanner: It may come as no surprise to some that the television show based upon a series of ads – albeit a popular and clever one – is expected by media buyers to bomb.
If Cavemen, based on the funny TV spots for Geico, does bomb, it won’t be because of its time slot, writes Media Life. It airs on Tuesday at 8 p.m., and is the only sitcom at that time on a drama-heavy night.
The show has received perhaps the most buzz of any of the new shows, but virtually all of it has been negative. Some think it will be difficult for the network to sustain jokes that work in a 30-second spot for a full half hour. Others are puzzled as to why ABC cast different actors than those who appear in the ads.
ABC didn’t make its premiere episode available for critics to review. However, critics did see a pilot over the summer that has since been scrapped. Newsday wrote that the pilot looked as though it had primitive brains behind it.
