MediaBuyerPlanner: The new television season, which opens in three weeks, may just be one of the best in history, according to an analysis from Carat (via Media Life). Shows are interesting and distinctive and, says Shari Anne Brill, senior vp and director of programming, “there are quite a few shows that are really good.”
With such a strong slate of programming, broadcast networks should stem the decline of ratings which has been taking place for years, as broadcast gave up audience share to cable. Each of the networks is likely to be down from last season based on live-only viewing, but even with last season when including DVR-recorded programs.
Brill’s predictions for the shows she expects will be the hottest include ABC’s Pushing Daisies, CBS’s Big Bang Theory, NBC’s Bionic Woman, Fox’s Back to You, and CW’s Aliens in America.
She expects that ABC will be No. 1 in the 18-49 demo, followed by NBC, then CBS. Fox and the CW will follow. Her predictions are for the fourth quarter only; in the new year, when Fox returns with American Idol, all bets are off.
