MarketingVOX: The BBC is planning a children’s version Second Life – CBBC World – as part of BBC Children’s intent to become truly cross-platform, writes the Guardian (U.K.).
Kids would be able to create avatars that can move around CBBC World and take part in games, animations, videos and music, as well as create their own content – the best of which would be used on the CBBC TV channel.
“CBBC World will be a space where children can find radio, TV and on-demand content,” BBC Children’s controller Richard Deverell is quoted as saying. He said the BBC must offer its young audience an “on-demand and entertaining experience.”
The virtual world will be soft-launched over the summer and rolled out in September.
