Veronica received her bachelor's degree in communications (with an emphasis on journalism) at California State University, Fullerton. As a news reporter for The Daily Titan, she won a scholarship and internship from the prestigious Chips Quinn Scholar program and awards from the California Chicano News Media Association and the William Randolph Hearst Foundation. Her journalism training ground was at the Pulitzer Prize-winning The Tennessean newspaper as a general news reporter.
