MarketingVOX: Amazon will begin offering the online drama Prom Queen for download through its Unbox service, reports the Associated Press.
Prom Queen originally appeared as a series of 80 short online episodes. Edited together as a full-length film, the drama will run about 130 minutes, including new material to connect some episodes. The show was produced by Vuguru, a production house founded by former Disney CEO Michael Eisner.
The availability of Prom Queen as a for-sale download shows a shift in thinking about how online video can by monetized. It also signals a continuous blurring of the lines between content from a start-up and content from a major TV network or movie studio.
