MarketingVOX: The former president of digital marketing shop AKQA, Kate Everett-Thorp, announced details of her latest venture – a group of three women-oriented sites launching in 2007.
Targeted toward women 25-54, DivineCaroline.com is the first of the sites that will make up the Real Girls Media Network, while two others will be aimed at teenage girls and women 18-25, respectively, reports MediaPost. To streamline the editorial process, the three sites will run staff-written material alongside user-generated content. Women can also create profile pages a la MySpace.
User-generated content will be screened for obscene material, giving marketers the chance to develop campaigns that integrate their brands with user content without worrying about being associated with unpredictable or questionable material, explained Everett-Thorp.
iVillage now dominates the website-for-women category, attracting 17.6 million visitors in October, according to comScore Media Metrix. Next is CondeNet with 8.1 million monthly visitors. Investors in Real Girls Media, such as London’s 3i and San Francisco venture Walden VC, which are providing $6 million in first-round funding, apparently believe those established sites could use some company.
