Aggressive ABC Adds Seven Dramas, Four Comedies

MediaBuyerPlanner: ABC is adding seven new hour-long dramas and four new comedies to its line-up next year, with some coming in the fall and some coming later in the season.
Perhaps most notable is Private Practice, a spinoff of ABC’s hit Grey’s Anatomy, writes The New York Times. The show stars Kate Walsh as a doctor who leaves Seattle Grace Hospital for a wellness clinic in Los Angeles. Another series generating positive buzz, both inside and outside ABC, is an hour-long romantic “dramedy” called Pushing Daisies, about a man who discovers that he can raise the dead and send them back again. He uses his powers to the advantage of a homicide detective.
Other shows include Dirty Sexy Money, in which Peter Krause plays a lawyer for a venal corrupt family, Big Shots, in which four rich executives struggle with business and women, and Cashmere Mafia, about a group of New York women and their dealings with romance.
Women’s Murder Club is a crime procedural, and Eli Stone is about a lawyer who is either crazy or a prophet.
Comedies include Sam I Am, in which Christina Applegate recovers from an accident only to realize that she was a rotten person in the past and tries to reform, Carpoolers, a buddy comedy, and Miss Guided, about a woman who returns to her old high school as a guidance counselor.
The final comedy is Caveman, starring the self-righteous Geico cavemen trying to adapt to contemporary society.
What About Brian and George Lopez have been cancelled. According to Jim may return, and Notes from the Underbelly will be back.
NBC publicly announced its fall lineup yesterday (Monday), an admittedly conservative one, according to Kevin Reilly, president of NBC Entertainment, who said that it is unwise to launch more than four new dramas because of the difficulty in marketing new shows in the fall.
In addition to the new shows, NBC has ordered more than the normal number of episodes for its successful shows The Office, My Name Is Earl and Heroes.
The article includes the complete NBC fall schedule.
