MediaBuyerPlanner: As spending in outdoor media continues to grow - it is second only to the internet - a new company is sending venture capital dollars to independent out-of-home networks in order to help them ramp up operations, improve their infrastructure, and perhaps compete against the likes of Clear Channel Outdoor, CBS and Lamar.
The company, Connect Outdoor Media, purchases majority interests in independent operators, which become affiliates and continue to operate independently, writes MediaPost.
The first majority interest purchase was of Texas-based Genesis Media Advertising. Connect is in talks with a variety of other outdoor advertisers about similar moves.
