MediaBuyerPlanner: NBC's The Office, which takes place in a fictitious company in Scranton, Pennsylvania, is getting its own convention.
Organizers of The Office Convention in Scranton are describing the gathering as "like a Star Trek convention, but with nerds wearing Dwight Schrute glasses instead of Spock ears," writes Multichannel News.
The town already sees fans of the show visiting to have photos taken of some of the landmarks from the opening montage of the show.
The convention, which includes some free events and others which require limited-admission passes, will have cast members in attendance. There will also be a band, The Scrantones, who perform the show's theme song. They will be playing their first gig in Scranton at the convention.
According to the website, the organizers of this not-for-profit event include The Office diehards from the City of Scranton, the Lackawanna County Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce, local universities, media, and local business leaders.
The Office began as a British comedy, translated successfully to the U.S., has won Emmy and Peabody awards and renewals and is in syndication on TBS.
