Ruffled Students Turn Taser Rage into Online Subculture

MarketingVOX: Coverage of a University of Florida student's recent Taser infliction by police has given rise to an online subculture touting the banner, "Don't tase me, bro!" - a statement shouted out by Andrew Meyer at the University of Florida when police seized him.

Meyer was arrested on Monday after haranguing Senator John Kerry during a campus discussion. He was asked several times to desist but refused, after which he was carried away by police officers, who forced him to the floor of the lecture hall and repeatedly Tased him in front of the student body.

A similar incident occurred at UCLA last year, when a student was dragged out of the school library and repeatedly Tased before a growing crowd when he failed to show his ID card to police. The incident was recorded on another student's camera phone.

According to Wired, "Don't tase me, bro!" has hovered between ninth and eleventh place as the most searched-for term on Google yesterday. A video of the incident, posted on Wired, was also ranked the number one viral video for the last 24 hours, per Unruly Media, which observed 2.6 million views and more than 40,000 comments for the video.

While "Don't tase me, bro!" enjoys jokes and joshing on sites like YTMND.com, it is also being used to spark discussion among students and other members of the web about the ethics of the incident.
