Right Media Ads Make Oblivious Host to Trojan Virus

MarketingVOX: A Trojan virus has been using Right Media's ad servers to spread across the internet, reports ClickZ.

The surge in downloads of a particular virus was noticed by ScanSafe between early August and September. The virus-laden ad apparently came from a member of the Right Media Exchange network, who uploaded it to the exchange's servers.

Right Media says the ad has been flagged and banned from future delivery.

The use of rich media ads as a delivery platform for Trojan viruses is growing in popularity. Right Media says it is looking at ways to combat that threat.

This is not the first time an ad platform has been used as a carrier for the Trojan virus. Several years ago it happened with the Falk ad server, an attack shortly followed by Gartner's prediction that other ad servers may be similarly exploited.
