Halloween Spending on the Rise

stumbleupon digg del.icio.us

MediaBuyerPlanner: The average person will spend $64.82 on Halloween this year, up from $59.06 a year ago, according to predictions from the National Retail Federation.

The NRF conducted its Halloween Consumer Intentions and Actions Survey with BIG Research, interviewing nearly 9,000 consumers, writes MediaPost.

The survey also found that:

  • 72.9 percent of people plan to pass out candy

  • 43.3 percent will carve pumpkins

  • 29.3 percent will throw or attend a party

While Americans spend the bulk of the $19.3 billion spent on seasonal decorations each year on Christmas, Halloween and the fourth of July are also emerging as big holidays. Halloween is gaining in popularity, according to the National Confectioners Association, because it is a holiday that gives Americans an excuse to meet their neighbors. The association says that 63 percent of consumers say socializing and handing candy out to kids are their favorite Halloween traditions.
